Central Harbor Park & Boat Launch Facilities Upgrades
|
This Central Harbor Park & Boat Launch Facilities Upgrades project was launched in direct response to community feedback asking for improved amenities and accessibility, increased feelings of safety, and renewed investment in one of Pittsburg’s most beloved waterfront destinations. The City of Pittsburg is committed to revitalizing and delivering a Central Harbor Park and Boat Launch facility that the entire community can be proud of. |

The park is taking a little longer than planned. Here's why.The over $4 million project—funded primarily through competitive grant awards—began construction in October 2024 and was originally expected to be completed in October 2025. Supply chain delays, reconfigurations of some park elements for increased safety, and obtaining required permits for improvements to the fishing jetty have taken more time than expected. Currently, the City is awaiting these final permits, which must be issued to authorize and complete work before the park can safely reopen to the public.

Why haven't we seen construction happening in the last few months?City staff, consultants, engineers, and regulatory partners are actively working to resolve the fishing jetty delays, and move the project forward as quickly, safely, and responsibly as possible. The good news: the project is substantially complete! In addition to all boat launch facility upgrades, the necessary electrical, plumbing, sewer, and water service updates are complete. Two new Exeloo restrooms, a water fountain, ADA-compliant paths of travel, fire pits, landscaping, parking lot improvements, a fish cleaning station, and hardscapes have been installed. A comprehensive security camera system will be installed this November, and a shade structure, fire pit seating and gates, and final exterior finishes to the public safety substation are scheduled for completion this winter. |

What if permit delays persist? The City’s goal remains unchanged: to reopen Central Harbor Park and its parking lot as a safe, accessible, and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy for decades to come. City staff are exploring options to open the park as soon as possible should delays continue beyond the winter months. These options potentially include partial park and/or parking lot reopening so residents can begin enjoying portions of the improved space while final work continues. However, the City will always prioritize public safety when dealing with active construction areas. The City will continue to share updates here as soon as new information becomes available. For questions or concerns, please send us an email here. All inquiries are welcome. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the City completes this important community investment. |
